Wall-Hung Tool Cabinet

Maximize your shop storage with this Wall-Hung Tool Cabinet and Drawers. The cabinet is designed to get the most wall-storage in the least space. So the cabinet has usable depth of 6"—deep enough to hold a vareity of hand and power tools. In addition, the amount of wall space is effectively doubled because the doors also serve as storage compartments. Both doors are 1-3/4" deep.

If you want even more space, you can build the optional drawer unit (plans are included). It's the perfect place to keep small tools, hardware, and accessories organized and close at hand.

We built our cabinet and door frames using 3/4"-thick birch, and we used 3/4" birch plywood for the back and door panels. 3/4"-thick plywood may seem excessive, but doors this thick allow you to screw in hooks and tool racks wherever you want.

Box joints work well on this project for a couple reasons. First, it's a strong joint because the fingers of the box joints provide plenty of gluing area at all the corners. And second, the uniform appearance of the joint provides a nice touch of craftsmanship to the case and drawers. But if you've never cut box joints—don't worry. We provide step-by-step instructions for building and using a custom box joint jig.

Overall dimensions: 42" wide x 10" deep x 35-7/8" high
