Routing Small Parts8

Simple add-ons are the key to safely routing small parts on your router table.

  • Page 51: Part number for tapered knobs
The Reid Supply part number for the tapered knobs should be BTH-13 to match the 1/4"-20 threads of the machine screws listed in the drawing on page 8. As of June 30, 2010, Reid Supply indicates that part is out of stock. Part BTH-14 can be substituted but that requires changing the machine screw to a 5/16"-18 x 1 1/2". Or use a different knob, such as BTH-170 or DK-984.

  • Page 16: Figures 1 and 2
The artwork for parts "B" and "H" (Case Top) in Figures 1 and 2 (pages 16 and 17) show the grain direction incorrectly. The grain should be rotated 90 degrees. As such, the Materials & Hardware list on page 17 shows the dimensions for the width and length reversed.

    The line item: (2) 2" x 13" Continuous Hinges should instead call for (2) 2" x 11" Continuous Hinges.

  • Fast and Easy Finger Joints
Finger joints always remind me of two hands clasped together. A set of "fingers" on one piece fits between the "fingers" on the other. But what provides the "muscle" here is glue. These interlocking fingers create a lot of edge-to-edge surface area for a really strong glue joint - which, in turn, makes for a solid box.
