In addition to creating funriture and shop projects, the folks at Woodsmith know how to put cleverly designed jigs to work. On this episode, John, Logan, and Phil their experiece in making and using jigs both for the magazine and TV show as well as their home shops.
Although it's easy to lump all jigs together, there really are two categories: one-off jigs and those that are designed from the get-go to be used time and again. I'll admit that definitions play a role here. Jigs? Fixtures? Accessories? Even Tools? The lines between them can blur.
Beyond this, once you make and use a jig, you need to consider whether you should hold onto a jig or toss it.
For me, it's a fun part of the woodworking hobby — making the tools that help you make the projects. I get that not everyone likes to make jigs. No problem. We're all different makers.
Shop Updates:
Logan spent a little time cleaning out his shop after the poker table project got delivered. His next task is to complete a bronze miter plane for the magazine.
He's finding new inspiration by watching some videos of his woodworking crush, Bill Carter.
Phil is working on his radio cabinet rehab project after a bit of a hiatus. Photos coming soon.
John is deep into making props for the next episode of the Woodsmith Shop — an English workbench.
