During this episode of the ShopNotes Podcast, John, Logan, and Phil talk about their woodworking inspirations through the continued pandemic. They discuss what books, projects, and ideas that have kept them passionate about the craft during social isolation.
Since he misses being in the Woodsmith shop and offices and the interaction with other woodworkers, Phil has been turning to his woodworking books for solace. His choices for the week reflect the kinds of projects he's been building recently. John finds inspiration in scarcity. His home shop isn't as well-equipped as the Woodsmith shop, so it's sparking creativity to see what he can do with the tools and materials he has on hand. And with fewer kids activities going on, he's found an abundance of time to work on his own projects and tackle a few around the house. In addition, John is enjoying spending time on the woodworking corners of the web catching up on videos and articles.
With the Grain by Christian Becksvoort is in Logan's head this week. With a sawmill on the way, he wants to und
stand trees, wood, and how to use the material best. __In perhaps a glimpse of the future, Logan is loving watching Bill Carter's hand plane videos on YouTube.
What we're working on__ John — is reviving a trebuchet project he started on a few years ago. It's woodworking, it's science, it's learning from home.
Logan — The work on the poker table is coming along. The massive base has a look that makes him smile. It's nice when a plan comes together.
Phil — Is making a scroll bending jig from ShopNotes magazine. He's also working on a desk organizer for his work from home office. The inspiration comes from a tray made by Dave Fisher.
